  • Delhi Government's decision to increase the bus fare in the national capital has not gone down well with the city unit of the ruling Congress which on Monday demanded a review of the hike.

In a veiled criticism of the Government on the issue, DPCC chief J P Aggarwal said "in some slabs the fare has been increased abnormally."

"Government is making huge investment to procure new buses and modernise the transport system. But still I think it is (the fare hike) a bit more," he told reporters here.

Seeking a review of the hike, he said, "I am confident that there will be a review of the decision."

The Government had last week increased the bus fare across all slabs to meet the revenue shortfall of the Delhi Transport Corporation.

However, Aggarwal slammed the BJP for coming to the streets to oppose the fare hike as well as rise in prices of essential commodities.

"It is wrong to do politics on price rise. They just want to politicise everything," he said adding the "Delhi Government was taking the right direction to improve lives of the citizens."

He claimed that to cover up its "internal fighting", the BJP was raising the issue of price rise.

Asked about the possible hike of the water charges, he said the "people should not be overburdened."

Bag game being played by congressBy: Ram Nath Babu | 11-Nov-2009 Reply | Forward Their own government has burdened the people with this increase in fare and now they are criticising the government for the same. The day DTC has increased their fare, Blue followed suit alongwith chartered buses. Even if the DTC now bring down the increased fare by a rupee or two, atleast the chartered buses are not going to lower down the fares now they are charging. BJP as principal oppositon party has every right to organize a protest. Although I am not going to participate in the protest, I would take off on that day in solidarity to the strikers. This is not the questin of bus fare alone. Right from salt to everything, the prices have sky-rocketed and both State and Central government lacks will to tacke this problem affecting common men. They know middleclass Indians are fools and they can do anything with them. Middleclass is a spiness less lot, unable to react on any event affecting them.
