The Ludhiana rural police on Wednesday arrested Amandeep Singh, son of Sidwan Bet block president Gurmeet Singh Kler for illegally selling psychotropic drugs.
HS Chahal, SSP, Ludhiana (Rural), said, “We had prior information that Amandeep Singh was selling psychotropic drugs from his chemist shop situated in Sidhwan Bet. We then came to know that Amandeep was going to receive a consignment of the same drugs from a dealer in Ludhiana. We conducted a raid and arrested the tempo driver who had brought the drugs from Ludhiana to Jagraon, Amandeep and a person working at the shop.”
Those arrested along with Amandeep included Samardeep Singh, the driver of the tempo, and Tejinder Singh, who used to work at the shop. The police have also informed that the consignment of the drugs was hidden under household goods like pulses and other items by the tempo driver.
The police have been able to recover one lakh psychotropic tablets and 400 bottles of cough syrup, used by people as a substance of abuse. The SSP added that the driver of the tempo is also being questioned to narrow down the supplier of the drugs while Amanpreet and his servant are also being questioned about other suppliers from where they were receiving these drugs.
