Dr Singh said it is too early to say who would be Congress' potential PM candidate in next LS polls.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said it is "too early" to say who would be Congress' potential Prime Ministerial candidate for the next general elections, saying there are several party leaders who are equally qualified or better qualified than him.

He talked to mediapersons on several topics including the global financial crisis and said top priority will be given to insulate India from global financial crisis.

"It's too early to talk about the potential Prime Ministerial candidate for the Congress as there are several leaders who are equally qualified or better qualified than me," Singh told reporters on board the aircraft returning home after his 10-day visit to US and France.

The Prime Minister's remarks come days after senior party leader M Veerappa Moily had said Rahul Gandhi hundred per cent fills the bill for the PM's post.

Maya as PMBy: J.S. Mishra | 01-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Mayavathi will be the next PM with support from Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat, Bardan, Gurudas Dasgupta, Deve Gowda, Ajit Singh, Chandrababu Naidu, Jayalalitha, Brindaban Goswami.
Sychophancy in the Congress and ManmohanBy: Sumanyu | 01-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Is Mqnmohan Singh hoonest to hmself when he says that Congress has many candidates capable for holding the PM's post. This is ridiculous. Even Manmohan knows that for getting some position in the Congress party and then in the ministry one has to first lick the boots of Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka, Robert Vadhra, their daughter and only then you qualify for some position. Then comes the competetive sychophancy of the Congressmen. One who is a greater sychophant is the winnder. Look at Peoplelike Arjun Singh, Shivraj Patil, Motilal Vora, Nawal Kishor Sharma etc all without any political base at all. Look how they are prospering. They are where they are because they are still licking Gandhi parivar's boots. Congress is the Most third grade party in India with communal elements.
PMBy: yohan | 01-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward he should have also said 'it will be decided by madam. we all are just stop gap arrangements, the position falls under reserved category for nehru family. if madam decides on Rahul, he will be PM next year, even though he just started his parliamentarian business. I leave everything to madam'.
Congress candidate for PMBy: P T Suresh | 01-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Congress may have several capable candidates, but the problem is that the Congress will only consider the Gandhis for the post. In other words, having capability is not enough in Congress, you need to be from the right household. If not, Rahul should and would not be getting so much attenention in the party against many experienced and qualified Congresswallas!!
There is no democracy in congressBy: dr.srinivasan | 01-Oct-2008 Reply | Forward Congress party has an intellectual vacuum and a leadership vacuum because they never inculcated the democratic way in the party. If you are unhappy with the party functioning you have to get out.Mostly it is feudal based on Gandhi family first and several other leaders as feudal lords in their areas.such parties cannot have leaders. Why dr.Manmohan singh who did not win an election has become a PM and stayed .If he had a little bit of democratic spirit in him he would have sought voters approval.rather than sonia's
