Senior Haryana Congress leader Karan Dalal on Tuesday said that neither the Congress nor the CBI had anything to do with the unearthing of the JBT scam and on its own, the agency was too scared to touch the Chautalas.
Addressing mediapersons, the former MLA from Palwal, said INLD leaders were misleading the people that ruling Congress had misused the CBI, leading to the conviction of former chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and others in the scam.
"Neither the Congress, nor the CBI have anything to do with the unearthing of the scam. It was Chautala's own bureaucrats, Sanjiv Kumar and Vidya Dhar, who opened the can of worms. The CBI acted because its actions were being monitored by the Supreme Court. On their own, they were too scared to even touch the Chautalas," said Dalal.
Demanding Chautala's resignation as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Dalal said: "The case was registered in 2004 when NDA was in power. The scam started during Bansi Lal's government in 1999 when these posts were to be filled through the Haryana Subordinate Services Selection Commission (HSSSC). When Chautala took over the reins of the government, he took the filling of the posts out of the purview of HSSSC and decided that these be filled through district level committees. The interview marks for the selection were increased from 12.5 to 20 by the CM," said Dalal.
"Rather than feeling ashamed about their misdeeds, Abhay Chautala, who is INLD's general secretary, is going around saying that if giving jobs to the deserving youths amounts to corruption, they we will do it again. This reflects their sick mentality," he added.
Meanwhile, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday declined an application seeking an early hearing of a petition filed against the 3,026 JBT teachers appointed by the Om Praksh Chautala government in 2010.
