Congress holds march on World Environment Day in city

Congress workers,led by District Congress Committee president Pawan Dewan,took out an awareness march to mark the World Environment Day on Sunday.

Congress workers,led by District Congress Committee (Ludhiana) president Pawan Dewan,took out an awareness march to mark the World Environment Day on Sunday.

Later,they also submitted a memorandum to the Punjab Governor,through the Ludhiana deputy commissioner,demanding strict measures for protecting the environment.

The party workers gathered at Circuit House and passed through Ferozepur Road to reach the deputy commissioner’s camp office to give him the memorandum.

Dewan said that the party had demanded the introduction of CNG operated public transport system in Ludhiana. He expressed grave concern over the levels of pollution in the city and attributed it to the unauthorised public transport system.

Saying that the Congress was aware of the problem,he pointed out that Ludhiana MP and party national spokesperson Manish Tewari had sanctioned several environment-friendly projects for the city — particularly the cleaning of Budha Nullah.

Dewan said urged the civil society to come forward and cooperate with the government for safeguarding the environment.
