Congress leader and Vankaner MLA Javed Pirzada has sparked controversy by honouring State Home Minister Amit Shah on the 60th Republic Day ceremony in Vankaner on Monday.

The district-level celebrations of the Republic Day was held in Vankaner town of the district where Shah was the chief guest. After the celebration,Shah was honoured by members of the minority community, led by Pirzada.

However,Pirzada described the honour given to Shah as “non-political” and said that the minister was honoured as a representative of the state government.

When contacted,Congress spokesperson Arjun Modhwadia said that there was no need of honouring Shah.

Pirzada was present at the function because he is an MLA of the region,Modhvadiya said, ruling out possibilities of taking any disciplined action or issue show cause notice to the MLA.
