Asserting that there was a total breakdown of the constitutional machinery in the state, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee today sought imposition of Article 356 of the Indian Constitution to dismiss the Akali-BJP government.

A delegation of the party led by PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh and Congress Legislative Party leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal submitted a memorandum to Punjab governor Shivraj Patil.

The memorandum states that the economy of the state is in complete shambles due to mis-governance and corruption at the hands of the ruling SAD-BJP alliance.

Later speaking to reporters outside Raj Bhawan,Capt Singh said corruption was at its worst,so was law and order. The state,he said, was on the brink of bankruptcy.
