The Organiser editorial takes pot shots at Congress’s “surrender” before the Left on the nuclear issue. It says, “This is a classic case of chickening out under pressure. The Congress has given in to the Left blackmail. Only the Congress was eager to take the nuclear deal to the people’s court in the hope of winning a mandate on a nationalist plank. This was what some of its friendly psephologists advised the party, warning also that a delayed poll will see the Congress tally tumbling down. But the allies were not impressed. The RJD, DMK and the NCP prevailed over the coalition leader to backtrack.”
It continues, “their fear is understandable, with essential commodities becoming scarce, price rise hitting the common man... The Left predicament is worsened by the raging rural riots against the CPM supported ration shops in West Bengal. The party’s bourgeois character particularly under the UPA patronage is out in the open.”
Logic of Ram
RSS ideologue P. Parameswaran writes in the Organiser, “It was a pleasant surprise to read comrade Sitaram Yechury’s article ‘Misusing faith’ in People’s Democracy, dated September 23. It was a very smart ploy by the Marxist ideologue to demolish the faith of the Hindu people, not only in Ram Setu, but also in Ram Avatar”.
He says that Yechury exploited the ancient Dasavatara concept in order to refute the historicity of Ram himself, and says that, “the write up creates the impression that the Marxist leader accepts that the ancient sages of India were well familiar with the theory of evolution millennia before the Western scientist Charles Darwin propounded it... But, his real intention, in this case, is not to show appreciation of the wisdom of ancient India. He is applying his logic in a backhanded way to prove that avatars are only symbolic and none of them ever lived in flesh and blood. He also wants to establish that the concept of avatars is just a symbolic anticipation of the ‘historical materialism’ of Karl Marx. He is trying to provide a materialistic interpretation of the concept of Dasavatara and thereby take away any spiritual foundation in the hoary Marxian traditions of ‘logical positivism’.”
