After CPM’s Brinda Karat, it is now the Congress party that is taking on Yoga expert Baba Ramdev. Hinting at the BJP, the leader of opposition Harak Singh Rawat has accused Baba Ramdev of toeing the line of the party.

Rawat said in Dehradun on Saturday that, “Ramdev is doing the politics of a particular political party. He should go ahead and join that party.” He said that he has also spoken to Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the issue.

A close confidant of Baba Ramdev has rubbished the claims made by Rawat. Talking to The Indian Express from Hardwar, Acharya Balkrishan said, “Baba Ramdev will not become a part and parcel of any political party just because Harak Singh Rawat is saying so. The world knows what he stands for and what he is doing.”

Reacting to queries on the decision of the state government to establish an Ayurveda University in the state that will just have four colleges with mere 200 students as its affiliates, Rawat said, “Yoga and Ayurveda are not merely something being preached by Ramdev. They are proper streams that need to be promoted at the University level. The state government should not set up institutions just to appease a few people for their interests.”

Rawat also said that the Congress is not Brinda Karat that would leave an agitation in between and not take it to its logical end.

On the issue of the proposed Ayurveda University, Acharya Balkrishan said, “We have nothing to do with it as we have a University of our own which none other than the former Congress Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tewari had helped us set up. We are very thankful to him for that.”
