Congress-BJP ad war sees a new script

The war of words between Chief Minister Narendra Modi and top Congress leaders like Rahul and Sonia Gandhi seems to have added fuel to the fire in the ad world with both the BJP and the Congress now focussing on issues raised during recent campaigns.

While a BJP advertisement in a local daily compares various figures of the state government and the Centre, the opposition party has issued an ad that talks about how "one man's pride and aspiration" is adversely affecting the state.

State BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja said, "Our recent ad is based on the fact that recently at different occasions on public forums, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and and Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit have spoken about Gujarat's development in glowing terms while the state Congress is busy saying that nothing has happened. We wanted to correct this and also show that the results of elections in Gujarat are not affected by the arrival and departure of any big Congress leader."

Steering clear of the 'Missing' and 'Promising' campaign that the Congress had launched over two months ago, its new ad drives home Rahul's verbal attack on Modi. Its latest ad has an image of a woman asking "Who will win? One person's pride or that of six crore Gujaratis?"

"Our advertising theme right from the beginning has been based on common man, which is why we have chosen not to have images of any party leader. The BJP is crying itself hoarse about development, but the truth is that development has not reached the common man," said Congress campaign in-charge Siddharth Patel.
