  • Rahul birthday
Students wearing masks of Rahul Gandhi celebrate his 39th birthday.
It was a perfect setting for a birthday - a cake, balloons, flowers and crackers – but the birthday boy was missing.

The venue was outside the 24, Akbar Road AICC headquarters where Congressmen gathered in large numbers this morning to celebrate the 39th birthday of Rahul Gandhi. However, Gandhi, hailed in the party circles as one of the architects of the party's victory in the Lok Sabha polls, was not present as he is abroad.

Phool Singh, a supporter, who wants to see the young Gandhi as the prime minister, organised a 'havan (yagna)' with the help of two priests to pray for the long life of the Amethi MP.

"We are celebrating the birthday of our leader. We want to see him as the prime minister. He is the only leader who thinks of the welfare of the country," Singh said, as 'mantras (hymns)' rent the air.

A group of youngsters burst crackers and distributed the sweets, but were disappointed when they could not meet their leader.

"He has fired the imagination of the youth. We see in him the image of his father Rajiv Gandhi," said Jitendra, a young supporter, who raised slogans eulogising the AICC general secretary.

Utilising the occasion of Rahul Gandhi's 39th birthday to woo Dalit vote-bank, the Congress organised community feasts in slum areas.

Besides party workers held a number of other programmes on "Samrasta Diwas (Harmony Day)", being observed by the party on Friday.

"We are holding community feasts in Dalit basti in all the districts, where senior leaders are hosting the lunch and dinners on the occasion of birthday of our leader Rahul Gandhi," Chief of Congress media department Akhilesh Pratap

    Singh said.

In Baghpat AICC general Secretray Digvijay Singh attended the feast, while all the 21 MPs from the state also organised such feasts in their respective constituencies.

In Rahul Gandhi's constituency Amethi, community feasts were organised in Kheshaina and Manirampur dalit colonies and Gauriganj area. The party workers celebrated the occasion in different ways, Singh said.

"The occasion is also being utilised to spread awareness about environment by planting of trees by partymen," he said.

Taking a dig at BSP's "Sharm Karo diwas" being organised today, Singh said the popularity of Congress party has forced Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to come out from the cosy confines of her office and participate public programmes.

"She is afraid of dent being caused to her dalit vote bank by Congress and that is the reason she is participating in such programmes," he said.

Congressmen celebrate Rahul's Birthday in StyleBy: A A Padmanabhan | 21-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Good gesture. Pleae keep it up. Rahul very richly deserves this. Some elements may be terming this as 'Sychophancy' but my qauestion to them is who is not Sychopant? It is not uncommon to other parties and they do it even more cheaply. In the present circumstances Congress (I) is the only solution and right choice to take India forward. I would like to see more such events. My VERY BEST WISHES to those who are behind the celebrations. May God bless Rahul and all of you.
CONGRESS CULTUREBy: A.K.SHARMA | 20-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Sychophancy has always been an integral past of the Congress culture. The 'slaves' of Nehru-Gandhi dynasty never ever lose a chance to show their shameful sychophantic acts.It is not only sickening but quite disgraceful too.It is high time that the genuine intelligentsia of the nation should unitedly build strong public opinion against such disgraceful acts.
