  • Next time you need help while in Ropar district, just use your mobile phone and send a text message across to the local police.

A special software installed at the Police Lines, Ropar, will now enable the public to lodge complaints or seek police help through an SMS.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Ropar District, L K Yadav said the various police stations and police posts in the district have been allotted different code numbers for the purpose.

So how does the system work? You can lodge complaints or provide any information to the police by sending an SMS in the given format — Police Station/Police Post Code number Problem/Information — to 9779410300. The message can be sent in English, Hindi or Punjabi.

Yadav said the SMS will immediately reach the respective circle officer, police post in-charge and duty officer /head munshi, through the special software.
