Consider our guidelines before starting new projects, says NDMA

The National Disaster Management Authority has urged the Haryana government to consider its guidelines before initiating any new project to reduce the after-effects of a disaster.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the Haryana government to consider its guidelines before initiating any new project to reduce the after-effects of a disaster.

NDMA Joint Secretary Amit Jha said the Authority has prepared a questionnaire, and information based on these questions should be collected while launching a new project. This will help authorities construct a structure that will be sturdy, and help minimise losses in the event of a disaster,he said.

He was speaking at a state-level workshop on Approach and Methodology for the implementation of a Disaster Risk Reduction Project organised in Gurgaon on Wednesday. He also placed emphasis on developing a disaster management plan for every district, which should be based on the geographical location of the area. The Authority has already decided to set up National Disaster Management Forums at eight places in the country,Jha added.
