A Constable of Provincial Arms Constabulary (PAC),who was undergoing commando training at Lucknow’s Commando Training School (CTS),was arrested for stealing a laptop and nearly Rs 25,000 in cash from a fellow passenger while travelling on a train in Bareilly late on Thursday night.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel recovered the stolen money and the laptop from Dronvir Singh and handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP). Singh was sent in judicial custody by a local court on Friday.

GRP Additional Director General A K Jain said the constable is posted with the 8th battalion of the PAC at Bareilly.

According to the SHO of GRP police station at Bareilly,Jai Prakash Singh,Lucknow resident Amit Verma had boarded the Gorakhpur-bound Rapti-Ganga Express at Moradabad on Thursday night. Verma had gone to sleep for half-an-hour but when he woke up he found his bag containing laptop,cash and other documents missing. He noticed a constable who was seated next to his berth when he had boarded the train was also nowhere to be seen.

Verma immediately informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner and the RPF constables. He told them that a person wearing police uniform who was seating next to his berth could be behind it.

While Verma got down at Bareilly,the RPF personnel started looking for the person in police uniform. Later,they found Singh travelling in another coach. When the RPF personnel quizzed him,the constable confessed about stealing the bag from Verma. According to the SHO,the constable was returning to Lucknow from Moradabad where he had gone to take his MA-II paper.
