‘Constructive dialogue needed between science and religion’

The five-day conference on science,religion and nanotechnology,organised jointly by the city-based Indian Institute of Science and Religion and Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth,Pune,came to an end on Tuesday in Lonavala.

The five-day conference on science,religion and nanotechnology,organised jointly by the city-based Indian Institute of Science and Religion (IISR) and Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth,Pune,came to an end on Tuesday in Lonavala.

Dr Kuruvilla Pandikattu of IISR gave the concluding speech. He said,“There is a pressing need for creative and constructive dialogue between science and religion today. The latest technological developments with its tremendous consequences for the society demands a religious response.”

The participants welcomed the developments in nanoscience and nanotechnology for its wide-ranging applications including medical,industrial,and agricultural,said a press note.

With regard to science and social responsibility,there was consensus that scientists needed to show transparency in their work and findings,and be prompt in communicating them to the public,who in turn should put in efforts to get the correct information. The conference came with a suggestion that “there needs to be an on going debate on the issues involved.” Dr Dhruv Raina of Zakir Husain Centre for Educational Studies,Jawaharlal Nehru University,Dr Nishant Irudayason of Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth also spoke on the occasion,the note said.
