The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday issued contempt notices to Deputy Commissioner (DC),Fatehabad and DC,Kurukshetra,for filing false and vague affidavits. Justice Ranjit Singh issued the notices asking the DCs to explain as to why contempt of court proceedings be not initiated against them.
The directions were issued during the hearing of a petition filed by Kashmir Singh,a kanungo. The petitioner had moved the court seeking promotion from the year he was prosecuted in a criminal case. Kashmir Singh was acquitted in 2007. Maintaining that since he was acquitted in the case he should be promoted and given benefits from 1996 and not from 2007. Kashmir Singh had claimed that no departmental proceedings were pending against him.
HC issues showcause notice to DGP
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday issued a showcause notice to state Director General of Police (DGP) P S Gill,asking him to explain why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against him for flouting high court directions.
Justice Permod Kohli issued showcause contempt notices to the DGP on a petition filed by Inspector Harjinder Singh from Tarn Taran. The petitioner had alleged that he was illegally and arbitrarily transferred in 2007 and he had challenged his transfer orders. He added that on January 11,2008,the high court had stayed his transfer orders.
The petitioner alleged that despite the high court restraining the state police from transferring him,the Punjab Police had ordered his transfer again a few days ago.
