Favourites Suhasini Bakre and Rajeshwari Mhetre won their respective plus-39 and plus-49 singles finals in contrasting manner on the final day of the Mahrashtra State Ranking/Selection table tennis tournament, hosted by P.J.Hindu Gymkhana here on late Sunday night.

Suhasini met a stiff challenge from Anagha Joshi,a former junior state player, before she prevailed at 6-11,13-11,11-8,9-11,11-9 over Rajeshwari,a national plus 49 champion. She made short work of Preeti Pardeshi 11-8,11-4,11-6 without much ado.

The men’s plus-49 final was won by K.K.Rai,who bamboozled lefthander Prakash Kelkar with his unorthodox penholder grip to clinch the final with a 11-9,11-4,12-10 win. But the men’s plus-39 final proved to be an anticlimax as the day’s heavy schedule took its toll on Vivek Alwani, who conceded the tie to Nitin Toshniwal after losing the opening game 8-11,complaining of pain in his legs.

Two other notable winners were Deepak Dudhane (plus 59) and Abdul Shaikh (plus 64) categories. While Deepak dropped a game to Pinakin Sampat before winning at 11-9,11-8,9-11,11-4,but Shaikh huffed and puffed his way past GC Kanchan.
