Controversial film poster: Case against unidentified persons

The Versova police on Saturday registered a case against unidentified persons for putting up posters to promote an upcoming Marathi film Punha Radhabai Chawl.

The case was filed under Section 153A of the Indian Penal Code for promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, place of residence, language etc.

The film is based on Radhabai chawl located in Jogeshwari East, which had witnessed major communal violence during the 1993 riots.

Six Hindus who had taken shelter in a room in the area, including five women, were burnt alive in January 1993.

"We are now finding out whether the persons who put up the posters had sought permission from the Censor Board," said Pratap Dighavkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9).

"We will arrest the culprits as soon as we complete the investigations," he added.
