Just over year ago, he was at the helm of affairs at the Christian Medical College and Hospital. But ever since he resigned from the administrator’s role and confined himself to discharging his duties as a teacher and doctor at the hospital, Dr John Pramod finds himself going about his daily routine with a sense of achievement.
Dr Pramod, now a professor of physiology at CMCH, had envisaged the hospital as a Regional Cancer Centre during his tenure as director.
The ambitious project, announced in February 2008, not only failed to see the light of day, but also led to a situation where some hospital employees began a campaign to effect change in the management.
The incident became the talk of town and Dr Pramod was hounded by the media for several days.
But now, he is back to full-time to what he claims is his favourite part of the profession — teaching. “I am enjoying being a doctor in the true spirit and am extremely happy with the way my life is progressing,” he smiles.
“I was confused and disturbed for a couple of months when the entire episode happened. I took some time off to settle my mind and now enjoy my job at the hospital,” he says.
Recalling the episode, he said: “I think I was too focused on the progress of the hospital and, in the process, failed to convince the dissenting voices among the employees.”
“Today, I have a sense of achievement in the work I am doing. When my students score well, I take pride in it,” he adds.
