Cooling Effects

For a maiden venture, choosing a name such as Cool down Before You Burnout for a book requires an author who is either quirky or is completely sure of the contents of the book.

Author Pratik Surana in his maiden book speaks about different ways in which people can manage their personal and professional lives effectively

For a maiden venture, choosing a name such as Cool down Before You Burnout for a book requires an author who is either quirky or is completely sure of the contents of the book. And in the case of debutant author,Pratik Surana, the latter holds true. With the book hitting stands across the nation,Surana who was in the city for the launch on Friday at Crossword,ICC Towers, spoke about the book in detail, regarding its inception, and the long process that went into compiling and completing the research for it.

“We all,as human beings are perpetually locked in this huge rat race to compete for something or the other. Be it better grades for a student in school,or a better job, salary or position for an adult, the reasons are countless, and result the same. We all end up becoming more and more stressed out and unhappy,as we cannot devote time to ourselves,” says Surana,as he throws light on the contents of the book.

The book, which contains 35 articles on ways and means to manage one’s,personal and professional life, aims at addressing the core issue of busting stress in individuals. And as Surana puts it,”While the book is not a fictional account, the main protagonist of the book is the reader himself, which is the most important part of the book. What I would like to emphasise on,however,is the fact that it is not another self-help book. The book just brings the reader face to face with some basic truths about life and the ways to find happiness.”

Surana who researched for almost two years before he sat down to write the book says that the book is a joint effort of a lot of people around him,who directly or indirectly acted as catalysts. Speaking about one such particular incident he says that it was his father who once remarked patiently ‘cool down son, before you burn out’ when Surana was arguing with a motorcyclist who had dented his car. “My father never knew that his one line eventually gave me the title for my book,” says Surana.

Divided into five parts,namely-work,self,lateral thinking, execution, and pin pointing solutions, the book, according to Surana, lets the reader introspect and find the reasons behind his or her apparent unhappiness. “To cut the long story short, the book is about individuality, and the way to find the same, which we have apparently lost in the unending rat race,” says Surana,on a parting note.
