As announced earlier, the cooperative department is getting ready with a booklet to ease confusion over registration of cooperative societies. The manual of rules and regulations for forming a housing society is being complied at a fast pace to meet the deadline. The draft of the manual has been put up on the departments website where citizens can give their suggestions. With 82,000 odd cooperative housing societies in the city and many more coming up with rapid urbanisation, the cooperative department felt the need for a manual. We had received many complaints from people who were not aware of the procedures and who found it difficult to register their societies. This manual will help them, says Madhukar Chaudhari, commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies. Besides giving the details on the registration, the manual will also have details on departments like civil court and lokayukta. Chaudhari said the department is still planning on how to distribute these manuals. Sandeep Joshi, chairman of a housing society, says such manuals will help new societies to follow the rules. Sukhada Khandekar,a treasurer at the Swastik cooperative housing society in Kothrud area, says the manual will encourage housing societies to come forward for registration. Registration was always looked upon as a very tedious procedure and the manual will definitely help speed up the process, says Khandekar.
