  • The railway police have arrested a 39-year-old man for attacking an assistant sub-inspector on a Kasara-bound train at the Vasind station on Tuesday night. 57-year-old Narain Ayyappa Pundali was in the ladies’ compartment adjacent to the cabin of the motorman when he was attacked. The accused fled with the assistant sub-inspector’s service revolver. He works with the fire brigade at Marol and has earlier worked with the CRPF.

According to sources, when the train reached Vasind station at around 9.45 pm, all the females deboarded the train. The accused, Anil Maruti Dudhani, entered the compartment and greeted Pundali who presumed Dudhani to be from the police department. Dudhani hit him on his head several times with an iron road and also injured his hands. He then took out the cop’s service revolver from his pocket and fled.

When the train reached Asangaon station, the police staff on duty saw Pundali and admitted him to a cottage hospital. Pundali was later taken to Rukmani Hospital and then shifted to Shridevi Hospital. He is out of danger.
