Six men arrested for drink-driving took their anger out on the policeman who had booked them in Greater Noida on Wednesday, crushing him under their car hours after being released on bail. The policeman,Sub-Inspector John Peter of Kasna police station,is admitted in Greater Noidas Kailash Hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the men,all school dropouts from Tigaon in Faridabad, had come for a wedding in Ladpura village in Greater Noida and were driving around dangerously in a Maruti 800,when they were stopped around 6 pm by Peter and his colleague Pradeep Kumar Bhardwaj.
The policemen found the youths drunk, and brought them to Kasna police station. They were detained for three hours, then released after a challan and bail, said D K Baliyan,Station House Officer,Kasna.
The men, however, got back on the road immediately this time in a convoy of three cars, together with several other wedding party guests. Around 9.30 pm,they came across Peter and Bhardwaj again, this time at the Greater Noida Authority roundabout. Recognising the policemen, the men tried to crush them under their car.
Peters motorcycle came under the car. His hands and legs were crushed and he was dragged for about 50 m before he got unentangled. The cars roared away, said Bhardwaj.
The men were caught late in the night, somewhere in Greater Noida, apparently as they were making their way back to Faridabad. The six who were in the Maruti Praveen,Sanjeev,Kapil,Yogesh,Buddhram and Pramod were arrested, along with two others who had bailed them out,Baliyan said. Charges of attempt to murder and the Gangster Act have been slapped on all eight, SSP Ashok Kumar Singh said.
