A top cop was killed in Uttar Pradesh, making the Opposition parties say anarchy is ruling in Akhilesh Yadav's Uttar Pradesh.
The BJP, Congress and the Rashtriya Lok Dal on Sunday demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident in which a Deputy SP was killed in the violence that broke out after the murder of a gram pradhan and his younger brother in Balipur village in Pratapgarh district on Saturday evening.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya, however, said the incident was further evidence of the jungleraaj under the Akhilesh Yadav government. It showed neither police nor common man were safe in SP rule, he said. "I will raise the issue in Assembly on Monday," said Maurya.
BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai said anarchy prevailed in the state during the SP rule. The police and the district administration failed to control the violence that continued for several hours in an area of Pratapgarh that is represented by a powerful minister in the government, he said.
Bajpai said the morale of the police force was low because the SP government was sheltering the ministers and SP leaders involved in incidents of crime.
UP Congress president Nirmal Khatri expressed grief over the death of Ziaul Haque, the circle officer of Kunda. "The police have the responsibility to protect others but now the police itself is not safe in the SP government," he said, adding that the state government had lost control over the law and order and anti-social elements were doing crime under the protection of the ruling party. Ministers, MLAs and leaders of the ruling party themselves were disturbing law and order for their illegal activities.
"The Pratapgarh incident is one such example where men of a cabinet minister belonging to the district clashed with each other and a CO was killed after that," Khatri said.
