Cop regulatory body recommends action against two city inspectors

The Police Complaint's Authority (PCA) on Monday ordered disciplinary action against two inspectors of the UT police. The recommendatory body, in two separate orders, has requested IGP R P Upadhyaya to take strict disciplinary action against the station house officer (SHO) of the police station in Sector 31, inspector Jaspal Singh and to issue a warning to inspector Kirpal Singh.

In one of the two orders, PCA has stated that the inspector Jaspal Singh has tampered with the CCTV camera footage at the Police Station in order to change the facts. As per the orders, he was captured in another CCTV camera while doing so. The orders also state that that action must be taken in view of inquiry report given against the SHO by SP Gursharan Deep Singh Garewal .

In the same case where the complainant Yuvraj Singh, a resident of Zirakpur, had submitted with the PCA alleging that the SHO in connivance with his landlord Harminder Singh and Harminder's son had "unlawfully" and "forcibly" made him leave from an Industrial Area plot number 8.

Monday's order stated that the SHO was still in constant contact with Yuvraj's landlord. Later, it was found that the footage was tampered with. In the orders of the previous complaint, the PCA had asked the police department to suspend Inspector Jaspal and to initiate a departmental inquiry against him.

The second order the PCA as requested the IGP to issue a warning to inspector Kirpal Singh for his inaction and failure to check and prevent trespassers from entering the complainant's premises when he was the SHO of the Police Station, Sector 34. In the order, dated February 18, the PCA has also asked to initiate an inquiry to a senior police officer for a fair, impartial and speedy inquiry. In his complaint, Amar Singh Chahal, advocate with the District Courts, Chandigarh had alleged that in September 2012, some persons had come to the first floor of SCO 114-145, Sector 34 of which he has a joint possession. Thy allegedly damaged property but police, Chahal claimed, took no action despite a complaint being lodged with them.
