Cop suspended for forging SSP order

Kumar said he forwarded the application to the SSP,seeking his report and opinion on the release of the convict

A sub-inspector-rank policeman posted as a clerk with the office of the Mathura SSP was suspended and a criminal case registered against him for endorsing an order for the release of a convict on parole on behalf of the district police chief.

The action was initiated following recommendation of district magistrate (DM) N Ravi Kumar, who detected the forgery by the clerk.

The DM told The Indian Express that some people from Firozabad met him last week and handed over a letter requesting for the release of their kin Tez Pal Singh on parole. Singh is a convict lodged in Mathura jail.

Kumar said he forwarded the application to the SSP,seeking his report and opinion on the release of the convict.

Three days ago the file on the convict was produced before him with the SSP’s note endorsing Singh’s release without making any comment in this regard,he added.

The DM said the order for the release of any jail inmate on parole is not considered without inquiring into the reasons, but the SSP’s reply came within just two days. He discussed this with the SSP,who denied having gone through any such letter or file about a convict.

The SSP,Bhanu Bhaskar, said he himself inquired into the matter and found that clerk Anil Kumar was behind the forgery. An inquiry has been ordered.
