Four police personnel,including a sub-inspector,were injured after a mob attacked a police team raiding Sansrod village near Karjan town following a tip-off that villagers were slaughtering cows during Eid. A team of 40 police personnel,including Karjan police inspector and four sub-inspectors,raided the village,situated around 15 km from Karjan town,after receiving information that cows were being slaughtered inside the Muslim-dominated area. They found four persons engaged in slaughtering a cow and held them,upon which a group of villagers protested,surrounded the police team,and attacked them with swords and stones,said SP (Vadodara Rural) Sandeep Singh. Sub-inspector at Karjan police station B S Sagar sustained head injury. Three other constables were also hurt in the attack. Villagers damaged police vehicles and burnt down one of the vehicles. They snatched a revolver from the police which could not be recovered,the police said. Under attack,the police fired two teargas shells to disperse the mob,and also fired in the air. Singh said,Even as the police were preparing to move along with four accused,villagers started pelting stones. Four policemen,including a sub-inspector B S Sagar,were injured. Three constables sustained minor injuries. The village is peaceful now. We had to use two teargas and fire one round in the air. We found a cow being slaughtered. A team of State Reserve Police has been deployed at the village to ensure peace. The police have sent samples of blood stains found on the clothes of the four arrested persons for verification. They have also framed charges against a mob of 120 persons for attacking the police and obstructing them in conducting their duty. Several sections of the Indian Penal Code have been invoked in the FIR lodged at Karjan police station,including sections 7 and 335 for attacking with intention to kill,attacking the police,burning police vehicles,and snatching away police revolver which is yet to be recovered,as well as under Gujarat Animal Preservation Act,said DySP (Vadodara Rural) Usha Rada.
