It was an order issued by the Congress government of 1962 that enabled Tanushri Choudhury — daughter of Tapas Choudhury, the slain assistant sub-inspector of Kolkata police —- to look forward to a job.
According to Kolkata Police Commissioner Ranjit Kumar Pachnanda, the application for the job for Tanushri, now a BA first-year student of Bimalananda College at Behala, was made today.
Since she is just 19 years old, a relevant government order specifying the minimum age for a government job in Group C and Group D category was needed. The task fell on Biswajit Bhattacharya, general secretary of the United State Government Employees' Federation affiliated with the Trinamool Congress and an official with the finance department.
The order was traced back to 1962, when the minimum age for jobs under Group C and group D category was specified as 18 and the maximum was fixed at 23.
"Now it has become easy for the police department to give the job to the girl who is just 19," Bhattacharya told The Indian Express.
