Cops ‘beat up’ mentally ill,kin file FIR

The family members of a mentally unstable man Sunday lodged an FIR against Gandhinagar police after he had allegedly been beaten up by them.

The family members of a mentally unstable man Sunday lodged an FIR against Gandhinagar police after he had allegedly been beaten up by them. According to police,he had been found walking before Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy on Saturday.

The incident occurred when Ratanji Hemantji Vaghela of Lekavada village suddenly came in front of the convoy while crossing the road near Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar. The police reportedly picked him up from the spot and put him in the lockup. Vaghela’s family was not allowed to meet him and waited till Saturday night to get him released.

The family came to Sector 7 police station with medical certificate of his mental illness. Vaghela,a patient of depression and amnesia,unknowingly tried to cross the road when the convoy was passing. The Gandhinagar police,however,allegedly beat him up inside the lockup. He was taken to Gandhinagar civil hospital for treatment.
