  • Senior citizens in the city are yet to receive the benefits of a scheme announced for them over a year ago by the Borivali police. The scheme involved distribution of cards with numbers of police stations and police officers to senior citizens living alone.

Sources in the police station say that 100 cards have been printed so far but they have not been distributed as yet. The police claim that workload has prevented them from executing the plan.

Police Inspector Annasaheb Rajmane from the Borivali police station had spoken to Newsline in April 2008 about the concept of ‘senior citizen cards’ after the gruesome murder of Khurshid Dick (65), a Parsi woman staying alone at a flat in Borivali, in March 2008. The case is still to be solved.

The card was supposed to contain the landline numbers of the Borivali police station and mobile numbers of senior police inspectors, the ACP of the area and the DCP of the concerned zone. A copy of the card containing particulars about the senior citizen’s family doctor, nearest hospital, blood group and other relevant details was to be kept with the police.

A police official from the Borivali police station said, “The workload of investigating offences, court duties and other duties like bandobast and nakabandis has kept us busy and we have not been able to canvass the area and distribute the printed cards.”

Rajmane added, “The cards have to be filled with details about senior citizens and also their photographs. We have not managed to do so as some of them were unavailable when our officials visited them. Around 100 such cards have been printed so far but will be distributed after all of them are ready with details about the senior citizens.”
