Three names are also floating in Delhi: Abu Zar, Danish and Aftab. Several police teams have raided various places in the Capital, Muzaffarnagar, Baraut, Baghpat, Azamgarh, Faridabad and Ghaziabad to look for these men. It is learnt 13 people are in detention all over, being quizzed about Abu Zar, suspected Delhi blast mastermind Subhan and one Qayamuddin, who has recently emerged as a possible suspect in the Ahmedabad blasts.
However, Joint Commissioner (Special Cell) Karnal Singh refused to comment. “Investigations are on,” he said.
Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal was positively gruff. “This is not a Cricket match that I have to keep up a commentary,” he told Newsline.
On Saturday, right after the blasts, Dadwal had said the police were “close to cracking the case since officers had vital clues”.
Karnal Singh said the police were looking at any clue that might lead to the Indian Mujahideen since this group had signed on the mails sent after the Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Delhi blasts. The content of all mails was similar.
A senior police officer said: “Abu Bashar, arrested by the Gujarat Police, was in Delhi before his arrest. So were Subhan and Qayamuddin. We suspect nearly 10 people planted bombs in Delhi.”
A Delhi team is also closely monitoring Bashar’s interrogation.
Sketches not clear
Though the police had made rudimentary sketches of the suspects — with inputs from eyewitnesses, including autodriver Moolchand — these couldn’t be released till Monday evening. “Still not clear,” said Karnal Singh. All eyewitnesses have reportedly said the suspects were men in their 20s. The police is also planning security for eyewitnesses.
2000 mobile numbers under watch
The Special Cell has reportedly put nearly 2,000 mobile numbers under surveillance since it feels blast suspects had called each other up before and after the attack. They are also trying to find out who called other cities, Mumbai and some in Uttar Pradesh. These 2,000 numbers have been randomly selected, an officer said.
