In the backdrop of recent case of rape and murder of techie Naina Poojari, the Crime Branch of the city police have issued guidelines for women working in BPO and IT sector in the city.

Additional Commisioner of Police (crime) said the city police have prepared a list of precautionary measures that women must follow. He said women working in call centres must not travel alone in the vehicles provided for their pick up and drop by the company. They should not allow any unknown person to travel with them in the vehicle.

According to the precautionary measures issued by Shinde, the women should confirm that the driver of the vehicle is not an outsider but employed by the company. They should check the identity card of the driver to confirm his identity. The women employees should ask for three copies of the identity card from the company. One copy should be kept at home, the second with them and the third with the office. So that they can match both the identity cards and confirm the identity of the driver.

“Women should store numbers of police control room and other important numbers in their mobile. If they suspect something fishy while travelling, they should immediately type HELP and the number of the vehicle and message on those numbers. They should also keep a pepper spray with them,” said Shinde.

Before sitting in the vehicle for going to or coming from office, women employees should call up their relatives and tell them the registration number of the cab, the time when they would leave office or home and the time when they would reach their destination. Women employees should not sit in the seat beside the driver or avoid conversations with them. But they should keep his name, mobile number and the number of the cab stored in the mobile. Also, while traveling women employees should not reveal details about their personal lives and family to their co travellers.
