The police have started looking out for the body of 18-year-old Mithun Bajpai, who had gone missing on February 24. The police action comes after a gangster named Sharafat confessed to have kidnapped and killed Bajpai,a student of Class XI at St Francis College in Lucknow’s Nigohan area.

Sharafat, who was arrested from village Brahamdaspur in Nighohan on Saturday, also told police that he had thrown the youth’s body in Ganga near Kanpur on the day of kidnapping.

A resident of Kanpur,Sharafat, carried a reward of Rs 15,000 after he escaped from police custody in Banda in July,2010. “On the basis of confession made by Sharafat, divers have been put in service to search Bajpai’s body in Ganga,” said Station Officer of Nighohan,Ravi Nath Sahai.

The police are also looking for Sharafat’s two friends —Satyavan and Tillu — who had helped him in committing the crime. Both are residents of Nighohan and are reportedly missing.

According to the Station Officer,Sharafat told them that they killed Bajpai because he had helped his friend Sonu Shukla in eloping with Satyavan’s sister around eight months ago. When Satyavan’s sister did not return home, they planned to kill Bajpai.

On Saturday morning,Sharafat who had befriended Bajpai allegedly took the latter to Kanpur on the pretext to take part in a function and then strangulated him.

The police have registered a case of kidnapping against the trio. Earlier,Bajpai’s family had filed a complaint to the police in which it had accused Sharafat,Satyavan and Tillu of kidnapping and killed him.
