Cops more alert since Kasab hanging: Singh

A day after blasts rocked Hyderabad, Mumbai Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh said city police had been enforcing anti-terror measures for the past two months, right from the time 26/11 gunman Ajmal Kasab was hanged. He appealed to Mumbaikars not to believe rumours but keep their eyes and ears open.

"Police became more alert after Afzal Guru hanging, as there were threats. All police officers and constables are engaged in anti-terror measures, with patrolling stepped up. There have also been combing operations and preventive detentions," Singh said.

He said an anti-terror cell had been set up in each police station and personnel trained in anti-terror measures.

"If you see suspicious objects, vehicles or persons, alert us immediately," said Singh.

The top cop was speaking at Prerna Hall in Azad Maidan, where he launched the Marathi edition of IPS officer Ashok Kumar's book Human In Khaki.

He took the opportunity to speak about mass media highlighting negative aspects of police.

"A black spot on white clothing is more easily visible," he said. "All of us make mistakes. Police work day and night. Sometimes they are tired. Sometimes they are angry. The media should learn to look at good things of police. That will motivate the force," Singh said.
