Senior officers with the Chandigarh Police are reportedly furious over the alleged bias meted out against deserving officers who participated in the successful operation to nab notorious criminal Jaipal on June 30.
As many as 18 cops, including an Inspector, 2 Sub-Inspectors (S-I) and 2 Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) took part in the operation. Of these, only two names, including that of a sub-inspector and a constable, has been recommended for promotion.
Officers allege that the S-I who played a major role in nabbing Jaipal has been overlooked, while the other S-I who only provided technical support from afar has been recommended for promotion.
“There was an S-I and an ASI who played vital roles in nabbing Jaipal. The exclusion of their names and recommendation of another S-I, who watched the operation from a distance, has given a jolt to the brave officers,” said three of the team members, adding that if need be, they will even move court against the injustice.
The S-I, who has been excluded from the list, has several solved cases to his credit. “His exclusion has brought down the morale of the force. We will apprise senior officers about the highhandedness of the DSP who favours his handpicked officials,” said an officer of the 18-member team. Inspector General of Police Shanti Kumar Jain has asked the officials concerned to submit the roles played by each and every officer who took part in the operation.
“We will not allow tolerate any injustice. The documents will be scrutinised and only deserving officials will be rewarded,” added the IG.
