In an effort to bring down crime rate in the city, the Panchkula police are now planning to engage resident welfare associations (RWA) to help nab criminals.
A meeting of the RWA of Sector 12 and the Panchkula Superintendent of Police Maneesh Chaudhary was held on Tuesday.
The SP said such meetings will soon be held with all other RWAs of the city as well.
It was after a spate of robberies and thefts that the police department took some major steps to control the situation, including revamp of the entire patrolling system. While we are taking all measures to control the deteriorating situation, nothing can be done without the active participation of the residents. Most of the welfare associations have experienced and senior members of the society, and their participation can be of great help, said the SP.
He added,The welfare association of Sector 12,along with their councillor Lilly Bawa, met me to discuss various security related issues. We decided that the RWA will have to inform the police about any house of the Sector remaining locked for more than two days, about employing of chowkidars, apart from informing about anyone found roaming in the Sector under suspicious circumstances.
Talking to Newsline,Lilly Bawa said,No police department can succeed till it has the peoples support. Besides, the residents should also shoulder some responsibility and help the police in the best possible way,so that the crime rate in the area can be controlled.
She added that the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) had approved installing of gates at all the entry points of Sector 12,and there were plans to help the police in completing the verification process of the servants and tenants.
