The Cuffe Parade police have sought legal opinion after Cricket Club of India CEO Kamaljeet Rajpal told them that he was cleaning his gun when it accidentally went off. Rajpal had allegedly attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself at his residence in May following which he was admitted to the Bombay Hospital. However, the police have sought a legal opinion before registering a case against Rajpal.
“According to Rajpal’s statement given on Friday, he was cleaning his licensed revolver to keep it in a working condition when it went off accidentally and injured him,” said Police Inspector V Bhole of the Cuffe Parade police. “However, according to our investigations, this is case of attempted suicide and therefore we have approached our legal counsellors for an opinion,” added Bhole.
The incident occurred after Rajpal returned from a sessions court hearing. Rajpal was facing a case of sending an obscene e-mail to a woman member of the CCI. The bullet went through his mouth towards the head, causing damage to the skull. His family claimed that he was only cleaning the gun at the time of the incident and that it was an accident but the police believed that he was tensed following the case and therefore took this extreme step.
