With the arrest of two persons, including a woman, for alleged sexual assault on a 20-year-old woman from West Bengal, the Chandigarh police appears to have stumbled upon a thriving human-trafficking racket in which women from far-off states were apparently lured to the city and forced into flesh trade. The accused were remanded to four days in police custody.
The woman told the police about two girls who were brought and kept in confinement by the two accused Naresh (32) and Seema (36).
In her complaint, the woman said, "After the two assaulted me till 2 am, I was thrown into a room in which two more women were also confined. They told me that Naresh and Seema had threatened and assaulted them. They were making the two women do all the wrong things."
"The two accused have links in Delhi and other places from where they lure girls to Chandigarh and then push them into the flesh trade. There are others involved with them. The two girls had said that they were also beaten up and are being made to work as prostitutes forcibly," she told the police.
Currently admitted to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, the woman is in a stable condition, according to the doctors. She has been advised complete bed rest owing to an injury in her spinal cord, which she had sustained while she was trying to escape.
"The accused had used a toilet cleaner to sexually assault the woman," Station House Officer of Police Station, Sector 39, Inspector Charanjit Singh said.
The woman has told the police that the duo asked her to do sexual favours to one of their clients and alleged that she was made to dance as the two made an MMS.
The police has sought the remand of the two accused on grounds that the mobile phone used to make the MMS and the mobile phone of the victim are yet to be recovered.
