Two-day session for officers was organised by Narcotics Control Bureau at police headquarters
With an aim to train police officers to efficiently handle cases of drug trafficking, a comprehensive training session on narcotics and psychotropic substances was held at the police headquarters here on Wednesday.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) organised a two-day training session for officers of the Ahmedabad City Police from the rank of sub-inspectors to assistant commissioners of police. Joint Director, NCB, Ayush Mani Tiwari and Superintendent NCB, P N Sarvaiyya, imparted the training.
They said the main focus of the session was to equip the police officers with the knowledge to handle the complicated cycle between seizures and court cases.
Sarvaiyya said drug trafficking cases often suffer in court due to either mishandling of drugs or absence of proper documentation or proof.
“After the seizure of a particular drug, the most important part is its sealing and packaging. There are chances of mishandling or low quality packaging and even changing the originally seized drug to other drug. We are giving training on the packaging to ensure there is no tampering and the drug reaches FSL for testing in the same condition as it was seized,” he said.
At the session, the officers were exposed to new drugs present in the market, and on ways to identify and classify them. The officers were also trained on how to use drug detection kits. NCB officers said the police were educated on the well-known routes and carriers of drugs.
