Copying in exams: Board to punish supervisors, too

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board this year will punish not only the students involved in copying but also the supervisors.

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) this year will punish not only the students involved in copying but also the supervisors.

The board has directed the District Education Officers to punish the supervisors as well for their failure to contain the copying incidents in the examination centres.

“The supervisors are supposed to check each and every student for copying chits they might be carrying. It is also their duty to stop cases of mass copying and cheating. We have been instructed that supervisors should be equally punished,” said S P Chaudhary, the in-charge of Vadodara District Education Office (DEO).

If the flying squad finds students copying in the examination hall by any means, the supervisors will either be suspended from examination duty the same day or it might affect the increments of the concerned supervisor.

“We will be imposing this directive strictly this year,” said Chaudhary.

He further said: “The students usually get seat numbers in an alphabetical order and so there is possibility of some students getting their own schools as their examination centres. However, this year, care is being taken so that no student appears for the exam in his or her own school.”
