Couple arrested for harassing minor girls at orphanage

The accused Satish Pagi (45) and Anita Pagi (40),were arrested on Friday.

A 45-year-old man and his wife,taking care of a private orphanage run by an NGO,have been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing three minor inmates at Nerul in Navi Mumbai,police said.

The accused Satish Pagi (45) and Anita Pagi (40),were arrested yesterday under IPC sections 377 (unnatural offences),354(forcing woman with intent to outrage her modesty),509 (Word,gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt),senior inspector at Nerul police station Rajkumar Chaphekar said.

The duo was remanded in police custody till September 6,police said.

According to police,eight girls were seen roaming in Nerul area when sub-inspector Mukund Solankar spotted them and made enquiries.

Three of them told the cop how they were being ill-treated and sexually harassed by Satish at the orphanage.

The girls stated that Anita had thrashed them several times for not listening to her and food was not served to them properly.

After preliminary enquiry,the duo,who are caretakers of the orphanage,was arrested,police said adding further probe was on.

Twelve children aged between five and 10 have been staying at the orphanage,police said.
