  • The Mahatma Fhule Chowk (MFC) police have arrested a couple for allegedly assaulting a person in Buddha Vihar and damaging the images of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Gautam Buddha on Thursday morning.

The incident created tension in the slum pocket of Waldhuni with an irate mob surrounding the couple’s house to attack them. According to deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Sanjay Shintre, the incident was the result of an old land dispute and right of use of property between the Buddha Bhumi Foundation Trust which runs the Buddha Vihar, and Pappu Yadav, a local resident. DCP Shintre said that Yadav and his wife Shankuntala have been arrested by the police. He added that the couple was whisked away by the police before the irate mob could lay hands on them. ENS
