Court asks news channel to submit all papers on Trust

The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court on Thursday issued notice to news channel Aaj Tak for submitting all documents and record, directly or indirectly related to a writ petition alleging irregularities by Dr Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust which works for the welfare of the disabled.

The petition, filed by Nutan Thakur on October 15, had prayed the court to direct the Home Department and Economic Offences Wing to get a case registered into the alleged irregularities.

When the matter came up before the bench comprising Justices Uma Nath Singh and Dr Satish Chandra, counsel for the Union of India Vivek Tankha raised objection to the maintainability of the petition. He submitted that the petitioner has not conducted any investigation before filing the petition and had referred to news items telecast by respondent Aaj Tak. Taking cognizance of the objections, the court issued notice to Aaj Tak, asking it to submit the documents related to the matter.

Asok Pande appeared as counsel for the petitioner while additional advocate general Bulbul Godiyal appeared for the state government.
