Court charges man who put rod into girl’s mouth during rape attempt

Accused was working with a local power distribution company,was arrested on February 5.

A city court has framed charges of attempt to rape and attempt to murder against a 26-year-old who had allegedly shoved an iron rod into the mouth of a girl when she resisted his attempt to rape her in February.

Paving the way for trial,the special fast track court of Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna framed charges under various sections of the IPC,including Section 511 (attempt) read with 376 (rape),452 (house trespass for causing hurt) and 307 (attempt to murder),against Anil Devraj who had allegedly attempted to rape and murder the 19-year-old student.

“On February 4,2013… you attempted to commit rape with the prosecutrix and you thus committed offence punishable under Section 376 (rape) IPC read with Section 511 within my cognisance,” the court said.

The court also noted that Devraj had “assaulted the prosecutrix by inserting an iron-like rod in her mouth”.

According to police,Devraj,who was working with a local power distribution company,was arrested on February 5.

Police had said Devraj had gone to the girl’s house to collect the electricity bill. Since the girl knew him,she let him inside her house in Lajpat Nagar,South Delhi. The charge sheet had stated that “after coming to know that the girl was alone in the house,he tried to force himself on her ”.
