The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court at Contai in East Midnapore on Thursday rejected the bail plea of four persons, who were arrested for allegedly keeping illegal arms and ammunition at their residences in Khejuri. Magistrate Mihir Kumar Mandal sent them in judicial custody till June 25.
Tapan Maity, Chandan Das, Ashis Maity and Gautam Pradhan have been charged under Sections 25, 27 and 35 of the Indian Arms Act.
Opposing the bail plea, public prosecutor Dilip Maity said the current situation in Khejuri does not permit their release. He informed the court that the police have recovered 11 guns, one foreign-made revolver and thousands of live ammunition and more than 100 live crude bombs from Khejuri in the last two days.
Appearing as a complainant, advocate Iqbal Hussain opposed the bail plea and alleged that the four persons are CPM members and had organised attacks in Nandigram on various occasions.
