District judge Joshi is Bombay HC judge
Pune district and sessions judge Madan T Joshi has been elevated as Bombay High Court judge last week,while additional sessions judge S N Sardesai is now the in-charge of Pune district and sessions court. Joshi was felicitated by the Pune Bar Association (PBA) on Wednesday. New courts were opened at Daund and Wadgaon Maval were inaugurated in his tenure,while new court building at Khed wil also be inaugurated soon, said PBA president Milind Pawar. Joshi served as the Pune district and sessions judge from May 2010. Joshi is among the six new judges who were sworn in the Bombay HC on March 17.
PBA polls on Mar 31
The PBA elections will be held on March 31 and an open poll for 16 executive committee members will be conducted. The results will be declared the same day. The executive committee includes a president,two vice presidents,two secretaries,one treasurer and 10 working committee members. Enrollment of lawyers for the elections will take place till March 23 and the final list will be declared on March 28 at 3pm. All PBA members,those practicing in charity commissioner’s office,industrial and labour courts are entitled to vote.
Bail for Telgi aide
The court of special judge S N Sardesai granted bail to Shabbir Mushtaque Ahmed Shaikh, close aide of Abdul Karim Telgi,kingpin in the fake stamp paper case on Thursday. Shaikh was released on a surety of Rs 1 lakh in a case registered with the Thane police in 2005. Shaikh is involved in seven cases in Maharashtra,MP and Karnataka. The CBI had arrested him for possessing counterfeit stamps.
Man convicted for killing wife
The court of additional sessions judge D P Vaikar awarded seven-years rigorous imprisonment and Rs 5000 penalty to Rakesh Rajan Nayar (24) for setting his wife on fire after she disallowed him to drink at home. The incident took place on February 5.
