Court issues notice to Jama Masjid Shahi Imam

Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari has been asked to appear before it in a case of alleged violation of model code in 2007 Assembly polls in UP.

A local court has issued a fresh notice to the Shahi Imam of Delhi’s Jama Masjid to appear before it in a case of alleged violation of the model code in the 2007 Assembly elections in UP.

Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari had reportedly used a helicopter,without permission,while campaigning for United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate Sabir Ali from the Khatoli constituency in the elections.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunil Kumar Arya has fixed April 7 for the imam to appear in the court and directed him to appear before it for the next hearing.

On the election commissions’ directive,a case has already been registered against Bukhari,Ali and a member of Jama Masjid Advisory Committee Inam Qureshi.
