Two deputy commissioners of the Delhi Police have landed in trouble for doing their best to delay (a) case, with a city court issuing bailable warrants against them. The warrants are to be executed through Police Commissioner B K Gupta.
Recording the testimonies in a case against former MCD deputy chairman and Congress councillor Ashok Jain and his associates for allegedly murdering a realtor and running a crime syndicate, the court noted the easygoing attitude of the DCPs,Crime and Central Delhi, who are supervising the investigations and the trial in the cases.
It seems that the Delhi Police is doing its best to delay the case. Let both the DCPs be called through bailable warrants of a sum of Rs 500 to be executed through the Commissioner of Police, Special Judge Madhu Jain said on Saturday.
The judge objected to the officers failure to comply with directives regarding the production of witnesses. Special Judge Jain had fixed the matter for recording the testimonies of four witnesses, but only two were brought to the court, while no substantial reason was given for the absence of the other two.
Polices failure to submit a report on providing protection to one of the prime witnesses also upset the court. The said witness, who was to testify on Saturday, also did not turn up.
No report has been filed by the station house officer of Hauz Quazi as to whether witness Anju Gupta has been provided protection as ordered on February 14. Today,a report is received that she has gone to Pune. Neither any date as to when she left for Pune nor when she will return is mentioned in it. The report is quite shaky, said the judge.
Special Judge Jain sought explanation from the two DCPs and called them to court. Junior officers, however, told the court that the DCPs could not come due to other engagements.
Issuing warrants against the two,the court sought their presence on March 21. Thirteen witnesses, including Gupta, have also been called on the day to depose.
Jain and nine others are facing trial for allegedly murdering a property dealer three years ago. The court had,in October last year, ordered trial for the murder of Vijay Singh on September 29,2007,at Hauz Quazi in North Delhi. Police had also slapped MCOCA charges against the accused, currently in judicial custody, for committing a series of crimes as part of an organised crime syndicate for monetary gains.
