Police has sought court permission for narco test of the accused involved in the murder of Dahod district BJP leader Raman Baria last week.

Speaking to Newsline,Dahod Superintendent of Police Vipul Agrawal said the police have also written to the Gandhinagar-based Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to conduct polygraphy and brain mapping tests of the accused to collect scientific evidence pertaining to the murder.

The BJP leader’s murder took place on the night of July 22 at his residence in Gumadi village under Limkheda police station. Two of the accused arrested by police are Leela Baria, wife of the deceased and Bharat Patel,a close aide of former BJP legislator Babu Bhabhor. Leela has confessed to the police that she had an extra-marital affair with Bhabhor, who has been absconding since the offence took place.

Agrawal said a team of FSL experts from Vadodara had searched the premises of the accused persons – including Bhabhor – for 11 hours and collected some concrete evidence about the murder.

“But we want to back it up with scientific evidence so as to prepare a foolproof case against the accused,” he said.

According to police,Bhabhor along with Patel had gone to Baria’s house to pick up the latter’s wife. However,Baria woke up when his wife was about to leave the house with the duo. Patel allegedly attacked Baria at the instance of Bhabhor and killed him on the spot.

According to police records,Bhabhor motivated Baria to join BJP and then got him appointed as Dahod district BJP general secretary through his influence in the party.

The former MLA has a criminal history. During the last Lok Sabha elections,he was accused of booth capturing in his native village Dabhda and a criminal case was also booked in this connection on April 30. He had allegedly snatched voters’ list from the election officials.

Later,he was accused of beating two policemen at Limkheda police station to seek release of one of his relatives who had beaten up a state transport bus driver.

Moreover,a case under Gujarat Prohibition Act was registered against him after seizure of IMFL worth over Rs 16,000 from his residence during a raid.
