Court rejects LIT officials’ bail plea

  • The additional Sessions Judge, GS Saran today rejected the bail applications seeking anticipatory bail of Avtar Singh Azad, executive officer of Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT), and superintendent, Paramjit Singh, in an alleged corruption case.

    They had been booked under Section 13(1)(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Civil Lines police station on April 4 on the basis of a written complaint lodged by the Deputy Director of the Local Bodies Department. According to the complaint, a plot measuring 22.68 sq yds was allotted to Raj Kumar at D-Block of Model Town Extension in May 2007.

    According to the agreement, Raj Kumar was required to pay Rs 4.67 Lakh, but he failed to submit the amount in the stipulated period. The department imposed interest on it and the price of the plot rose to Rs 8,67,100. As per the department, only after taking the consent of the chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) could the amount be paid but the accused were allowing the defaulter allottee to deposit installments against rules of the LIT

    After hearing the arguments of both side, the judge rejected the bail applications seeking anticipatory bail of the accused.
